Village Montessori School offers a dance program featuring two different classes - Music & Movement and Dance. These programs are offered for an additional charge throughout the school year and include two dance performances. The performances are normally held around the holidays in December and then again at the end of the school year in May.
The Music & Movement class is designed for the younger child. This class will introduce many dance concepts including counting music, beat and balance. Various props such as rhythm instruments, bean bags and a balance beam are used to help develop these concepts.
Dance class focuses on traditional ballet and jazz while incorporating various extensions. The children have the opportunity to use different props such as ribbon sticks, balls, hoops and more to learn how to incorporate them into their dancing. They also have the opportunity to do various gymnastic activities.
Both of these classes are instructed by one of our preschool teachers, Nicole Roy. Nicole has an extensive dance background. She has studied ballet, jazz, hip hop and lyrical dace throughout her childhood. She also was a apart of her high school dance/drill team and has coached dance teams at the high school and middle school levels. She has been running the dance program at Village Montessori for the last 8 years.
Village Montessori School also offers on site swimming lessons during the summer. The swim instructors are certified with WSI training. There are various different classes offered based on the child's ability. These classes cover the very basics such as getting their faces wet and blowing bubbles to more difficult tasks such as swimming the length of the pool. Parent input and instructor evaluation determine which class each child will be placed in. Our swim season is concluded each summer with Swim Olympics. Swim Olympics gives every child who participated in swim a chance to show off what they learned to their friends and loved ones.
